hello everyone, a quick question, has anybody had the rear wheel bearing retainer on there mark 2.2, and how didi they get it off without buying the 25 quid tool from off road only? my bearings are now shot and need changing, but i have the \"CRAPPITE\" cover as talked about by admin in the servicing section. funnily enough, the tool is available at ORO, and is for Honda XR's. what a coincidence............

I assume you mean the alloys screew in 'cover' on the chain side? If so, I just use a punch and a hammer to get it off. I then (once off) drilled 2 holes in it and tapped them so I could screw in 2 bolts. Then when putting it on (or taking it off thereafter), you simply put a screw driver between the two bolts and turn it like that. Obvioulsy once tight, tak ethe bolts out! I then put a bit of silicone in the holes to seal it, this can be easily removed the next time.

got bored waiting for the home made tool, so went down the local Honda dealer (HGB M/C's) and asked em to get it off with there xr400 tool (its the same) the result? some tw*t smacked the crap out of it with a drift and big hammer :x EEEEjits! I had to get a new one as the thread was shagged. my dad now has the old one and is using it to finish off the tool.

As for the wheel bearings, first time i'd done it to this bike, and it must have been the first time its ever been done on this bike at all! took 3 hours of bashing with a big screwdriver to get em out, AFTER heating the hub with boiling water. mind you they weren't half shagged...... never mind no more nagging from the scrutineers at the next race!!!

Jack,

If you can send me a set of plans that will be ace as I want to replace my bearings soon. How about getting a few made up and selling them to people on the website? Just a thought.

bargos, give me your e-mail and i will send the pattern.
i don't think I'll be able to get many made, as the lads did it as a favour for my old man that they owed him, and they are gradually getting shut down as they aren't needed so much at the works. sorry folks.
