Waterproofing the CRM

Post by Eddie Evans » 04 Sep 2007, 14:34

A friend of mine is of the opinion that the CRM is not as good at going through deep water as 4 stroke bikes.
So far I have noticed that a waterproof plug cap and routing the carb vent pipes up into the air box will help.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Also being a 2 stroke convert what is the likely result of drowning a 2 stroke.
It appears to me that a 2 stroke will not suffer the hydraulic lock that 4 strokes get. So it should just be a matter of drying everything out etc. and then restarting. Am I right has anyone experienced this?
Thanks
Eddie

 once and it was terminal!!! mind it was muddy water and the bike was completely submerged(and me!) the crankcase looked like a ploughed field when it was stripped.the motor will hydraulic.i've gone through water upto the level of the exhaust and the only problem i had was not having waterproofed the cap  with the breathers routed in the normal manner.
if you do drowned it,plug out kick the motor over, drain the carb/airbox use a mates exhaust to dry the filter re-install and kick the fecker till you fall over then let all your mates have a go till it fires

p.s me and mickstoy did strata florida earlier in the year and were the only strokers out of the 8 riders and had no probs (except for the plug cap thing) a ktm,a drz and an xr all had to be pumped dry during the days river crossings,so the crm's cant be that prone can they?

Good news that the strokers made it through when the DRZ etc. failed.

I went to Strata about 3 weeks ago on the KLX, the water was over the bonnet of a Discovery. I chickend out
