pressuring crankcase

Post by vilguy » 23 Dec 2007, 20:09

well i took the crm out for its first proper ride out today.... and learnt that it needs some work!

the initially slightly weeping oil leak from the crankcase has turned into an all out pissing competition and it not looks like the crankcase it being pressusised and forcing the oil out. when running the oil was being forced up out of the clutch actuator lever seal! and as i pulled into my house it was literally running out of the bike. am thinking i need to strip her completely! :(

other than that i loved her! i think i have put the wrong gearing on though!, i put a 15t front sprocket on thinking it would help on the roads in between the trails but it just made the gearing the wrong speed really. 2nd was too high to pop it up over obstacles and it would barely pull 6th! so im gonna go up3 teeth on the back i think. im doing this as the cr250 rear shock has lifted the rear up by around 6". this means the chain guide rubs quite badly on the chain, i know its supposed to rub a little but this is TOO much.

anyway i think its the motor to sort first!

any ideas which seal it might be? lol i know its a daft question as it could be any but i just want people to tell me its the easiest one and make me feel better :D

might be a daft question but is there too much oil in the case? this will cause a pressuree increase as there is no where for the oil to splash around and so gets forced out of the easiest route. check how much has blown through the breather in the airbox. that may be blocked too causing the same problem. as jon says check for g/box breather blockages and oil level before assuming the worst

well i had a look at it, yes on xmas day! lol... ahh the joys of going to your parents and them doing all the cooking! :D

i took off the airbox ( a right little swine!) and found the breather pipe coming from the crankcase, is this supposed to go into the airbox like on most 4 strokes? it was looped over the frame with some extra tubing and then draped down behind the shock. the piping was an extension though and was very small in diameter. im thinking of routing the original piping (larger dia) into the top of the airbox.

hopefully this will reduce the pressure in the cases.

out of interest some of you guys have said you run your gearbox on 10w40 is this was honda recommend? i thought most gearbox oil was thicker than that?

i need a new clutch at the moment too for it as on the test ride it was a little eerrr rough to say the least but im nipping up to leisure trail tomorrow to get some bits n bobs.

yesterday was a better day for me though, i took my mrs to tescos carpark whilst it was shut and got her to ride the new motorbike i brought her for xmas :) it was her first ride since her cbt so i was very proud... if nervous as hell everytime a car came in. now to get her on the road!

hope you all had a good one!
