Water in oil

Post by tomh » 31 Dec 2007, 16:27

I have done 400miles mostly on green lanes since getting the bike, it had recently been serviced before i bought it, the chap i bought it from lives a mile from me and seems genuine. Him, his wife and son always stop and chat when i see them.
Anyway, i decided to change the oil as a matter of course and its a grey colour, after draining it out i could see a couple drops of anti freeze left clinging just inside the filler hole. I checked the rad which is full and the expansion bottle doesnt appear to have moved. Is it likely to be a small leak from the seal on the pump?

It doesnt appear too bad, so ill prob keep riding it till i know what needs doing

Could be condensation droplets inside the filler hole? As you have said, ride it, and keep an eye on the coolant level :) When i drop the gearbox oil on mine,(every 1000kms) it's also grey in colour.

The grey colour is from thousands/millions of very small pieces of metal. Gwym is right about possible condensation. I wouldn't worry. :)

I was just slightly concerned as the droplets were green....just like my antifreeze!
Could be from an old leak and the oil didnt look too bad on the whole.
Will just keep riding it and changing the oil every 500miles as ive converted my speedo to mph as i found it confusing!

it meay be your inner water pump seal has cracked or gone hard. i'd change them both to be on the safe side. Jon

Turns out i overfilled the oil and it leaked out a bit today, so i took out the level plug and about 50-70ml came out. It still looked like new after a 5mile run, prob nothing to worry about

Has the coolant level dropped :?: If not, you should be ok, just keep an eye on it :)
