gearbox noises?
gearbox noises?
How noisy are crm gearboxes?i can hear a noise coming from the clutch side of the box,i can hear in on tickover, pulling the clutch doesnt have any affect. The bike runs sweet all gears are fine smoth as anything, the only way i can describe it is that it sounds like you can hear the cogs in the box turning as the engine runs, its not a loud noise and carnt hear it on the bike just when standing next to the bike,is this normal to hear some noise from the box/clutch?or did i not do somthing right

Re: gearbox noises?
heres a video of it,as the time counts down the best sound of the noise is from 1:07 to 1:04 that gives the best sound of what its like, you can hear it in the rest but not as well as the camera was against the bike, the sound has been amped up on the vid.

Re: gearbox noises?
this could be one of 2 things, either the clutch actuating bearing has gone ot the clutch basket bearing has gone, either way, tale the case of and check before it does any damage. Check the oil to see if there is and metal fragments in it too. Jon

Re: gearbox noises?
thanks for the replys guys, what sort of price are these parts?also how would they be checked for wear?
Re: gearbox noises?
bike passed the mot today
have started to strip parts to get the clutch side cover off exhaust, drained coolent etc, have left the bike overnight to drain gearbox oil tho the oil seemed fine with no bits on from what i could tell.If the clutch basket bearing has gone am i right in thinking that there will be play in the basket?

Re: gearbox noises?
think i may have found the problem with this, got the right side cover off today and the centre of the clutch was all tight the springs etc got all the plates of the nut behind was tightend but there was some play in the back part of the clutch(the bit with the big cog on) about a a couple of mill play,is this normal whan the plates are off or is my bearing f*%ked.

Re: gearbox noises?
There shouldn't be any play if I'm thinking about the correct part.
I've recently taken two engines apart and both clutch baskets were tight.

Re: gearbox noises?
i wonder if there is a washer missing too? check that all parts are there. I might have an exploded diagram if you need it. jon
Re: gearbox noises?
yes i have one of those crm manual from leisure trail that come with the bike that has an exploded view of the clutch,it did seem very odd to me the amount of play,i know of the washer you talk about and am sure it was fitted as i had the exploded view in front of me as it was built plus i dont have said washer lying around. Will know more once ive taken it off for inspection just glad its just this as it shouldnt be to hard of a job to put right.
