Bump Stop?

Hi guy's

The rubber bump stop at the base of my rear shock has started to fall apart/crumble. Now the shock itself is working perfectly, and not bottoming out. My question is, should i have the shock rebuilt immediatly as i might cause some damage, or would it be ok to carry on using the bike as it is, and get the shock rebuilt at a later date?

Thats bad news mate' now carefully ease away whats left of the bump stop and check the condition of the shaft.
What you will probably find is some damage and pitting to the shaft, so what happens is every time that damaged bit of shaft enters the seal block housing it tears the seal a little until one day you find a pool of oil under the bike.
The GP riders used to run with 2 bump stops to help counteract this .
You may still save the shock at this stage if you get a new stop on it pronto
good luck
Mike

Cheers Jon 8) Think i'l just carry on riding, keep an eye on it, and see what happens

There's no pitting on the damper rod, so with a bit of luck i should be ok
