Bleeding the autolube
Before I try starting my Mk2 up after a rebuild, I think I need to bleed the autolube system?? I read on a thred talk of doing it but could not find out how to do it. Any advice welcome
Re: Bleeding the autolube
Take the cover off the autolube pump. You will see a brass screw on the pump body (partly occluded by the lube pipes). Take that screw out and wait until air stops coming out (ie a constant stream of oil). Put the screw back.Mudfacetony wrote:I need to bleed the autolube system??
That is the procedure in the manual. Personally I also like to prime the delivery pipe by pouring a bit of oil into it too. Only enough to fill the pipe though, you don't want to pour pints of the stuff in.

Re: Bleeding the autolube
On this subject, my mate has bought a CRM that's using Castrol pre-mix. He wants it returning to auto-lube with a good quality semi-synth 2t oil.
Is it as simple as emptying the fuel tank and then priming and bleeding the auto-lube to change it back?

it sjhould be, but perhaps there was a reason that it was switched to premix?rich1960 wrote:Is it as simple as emptying the fuel tank and then priming and bleeding the auto-lube to change it back?
I think I would want to check that the oil pump was working, that the oil tank was oiltight and that the oil delivery pipe was clear first.
Finding that the oil tank leaked would actually be good, because the provides an explanation for the switch to premix that is easy to fix.

Re: Bleeding the autolube
Sorry, meant to say Castrol 'R'
The previous owner has confirmed that everything worked fine and has given us a valid reason for using pre-mix.

Re: Bleeding the autolube
i would flush out the oil pump first tho as there may be all sorts of crap in the oil system, and if the oil pump was not linked so oil was circulating constantly then the pump is probably wrecked now. Check this before you do anything else!.
I used to ride a jawa and they had oil pumps that people used to remove. and almost every time the pumps would seize if left driven without oil.

Re: Bleeding the autolube
Having follwed the instructions above and bled the system, re-assembled and primed I've hit a problem, the bleed screw under the two delivery pipes won't tighten up and oil is leaking out, its a 7mm headed screw about 6-7mm long with a sealing washer on it.
Does anyone know if its possible to re-tap one size up (probably M4 but need to check) or is it a new/second-hand pump?

7mm? That's a very odd size if it is. I wonder if someone has put the wrong one in there?rich1960 wrote:Having follwed the instructions above and bled the system, re-assembled and primed I've hit a problem, the bleed screw under the two delivery pipes won't tighten up and oil is leaking out, its a 7mm headed screw about 6-7mm long with a sealing washer on it.

Re: Bleeding the autolube
Had the same problem on my old mk3. From what i remember theres no pressure on that screw, after lots suggestions, the threads were cleaned, put a smear of clear silicone on the thread of the screw and put it back in. Worked fine with no problems or leaks.
