fuel pouring from carb breathers

any ideas before I pull the carb on my AR...

-bike has sat for about 4 months (I thought I had drained the fuel from the carb...ran it till it died when I used it last)
-just installed an inline fuel filter
-turned fuel on and
-fuel just pours from both both breather tubes till I turn the fuel off again
-have tryed hitting the carb with (the rubber end of) a hammer incase something is sticking but to no avail

have looked around the forum but not really seen anything like my problem and am about to take the carb off to check it out but was wondering if anyone has any ideas,

Float valve is stuck. Give it a tap and I mean a TAP with a soft face hammer or a steel one at a push. That should sort it out.

Otherwise you have got water in the carb and some corrosion; you need to take it apart & clean.

thanks guys - I think it is more likely that the float needle is stuck - corrosion doesn't tend to be a prob in Uganda! I will give it a heftier 'tap' tommorrow. Failing that can the float bowl be dropped with the carb in situ? Looks tight? Don't really wanna to be pulling the carb as I am fed up with the bike sat there - I JUST WANNA RIDE IT!!!

or it could be shite stuck between the needle valve and seat,strip and clean is the best solution

well a few more hefty 'taps' with a hammer did the trick - thank goodness! now just got to hook up the pv cables and start it!!!
