Gear selector mech

I think I counted my eggs too soon knackered
I just attched the gear lever so I could attatch the gears. it seems a bit tempramental.
I thought I had aligned the gear selector drum correctly when I installed it.
I can click through the whole rage of gears (sometimes) but it won't go into 6th gear.. The drum selector
doesent make it to the next tooth (if that makes sense) it rests in the middle. And sometimes
it will do this on the other gears too. This is a hard one to explain.
What do you reckon...Gearbox problem or gear selector mech problem?

Sorry

I haven't got a clue
Might know better when I've put my engine back together in about a month

in hindsight I've just noticed that I don't have neutral - in any gear selector posistion
the sprocket spins on all of them..
I'm hoping to god I've installed the gear mech wrong

I am still struggling to get the bike in neutral.
When the 2 dots are aligned -- the dot on the detent rotor and case marking - should the bike be automatically
in neutral? because it isent, does it need to spin another 360 degrees or more again to reach the same point again?
I am struggling turning the the selector drum by hand to get it to change (spin round)

I am a moron - even though the sprocket was spinning I dident realise that if I put any light pressure
on it would stop - so I am in neutral after all
Not put the mech back together yet though -- so not gonna hold my breath just yet...

I am one lucky son of a bitch -- I just got it out
I was wedged deep inside the shaft so I put the other broken peice in and manged to screw it out so it was flush with the casing and used a very small screw driver and hammer to slowly turn it out.. thank feck for that - that could have been a complete disaster.. I would have had to drill it out re-thread and split the cases again to get all the poo out.
It's like a bleeding soap opera!

sounds like you need to get it back running and palm it off. Judging by the amount of problems you've had sounds like its jinxed!

I have been thinking te exact same thing for a while now.
But don't wanna go trough this whole rigmarole again if I was to buy another, at least now I know where I stand with it (I think) because once it is put back together - It will have more or less been completley rebuilt - so logically, there shouldent be anymore major problems

The amount of money I have invested in it: new cdi, reg/rec/, servo motor, top end, bottom end bearings, swing arm bearings, stan stephens tuning etc etc.. - I probably won't see a fraction of that cost back if I sold it.
So I just pray that once it is back together all will be well for a long time - if so I intend to keep it - if I don't take a sledge hammer to it in anger beforehand. I just wanna ride it, not too much to ask is it
