long shot...but does anyone know the size of the sump plug? I'm gonna explore the option of heli coil
I've used the last bit of PTFE tape to hold it in so I darednt take it out to measure it at
the moment as I have an MOT booked tommorrow, oil pissing out of the sprocket seal too

Plan B would be to drill and tap the existing sump plug to take a little drain plug (M10 or even M8) and then glue the original in permanently with Araldite.

(I just read this idea on t'internet looking for another alternative solution, which is an expanding rubber sump plug, like a wine keeper, but I can't find one of them)

Cheers Andy. I was considering tapping a new hole or just using metal putty to hold in place some threaded
bushing.

I spent all day yesterday ringing round plumbing shops and stuff looking for an expandable plug
funnily enough. most I found were too big.

I heard you can get these 'emergency sump bungs' too from somewhere.

But had no luck with finding them either. :?

I ended up buying a 8mm to 15mm reducer coupler from the plumbing section of B&Q
(I threw away the 'wedding ring washers' and hollow nuts that came with it as they wasent needed.)

and a 15mm blanking end cap from the same section.

The 8mm even though it was the smallest they do was still 1mm too large for the sump
so I filed the threads down so it was smooth which made it a perfect fit.

I glued it in place with 'cold weld' and left it over night.

Since I had a chunk of the aluminium break away also, I pressed some metal putty around the base
of the new fitting for good measure.

It seems to be doing the job perfectly no more leaks and even though it pertrudes slightly more that the original bolt it is still protected my the bottom
of the frame so it turned out to be a cheap fix as appose to helicoiling it.

Oh I forgot to add that I also cut a few mm off of the shaft of the coupler with a dremel,
so that it cleared and dident block off the small draining hole that you can see in the sump thread.

I think the size you are looking for is M24x1.25 (fine). I need to check this but i bought a helicoil kit but never got around to doing it on my CR, and i am sure they are the same size.
