Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit

So my CDI and Reg/Rect has finally found its way to me here in Uganda and with great excitement I went to fit the Reg/Rect...but to my dismay I found that the unit itself is physically larger than the original unit and so cannot be mounted in the same location and also that the wire lengths and connectors are different. I double checked the website that I have the correct part ie RR125 for CRM250. So now what to I do - has anyone else bought and fitted one? I didn't tell Electrex in my 'snotty' email but it is within my capabilities to swap connectors and extend wires accordingly but the way I see it - I shouldn't have to. The bigger problem will be relocating the unit as an AR is already packed full of stuff around the frame. Anyone have any experiece/advice?

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
I know it should be right
Could you mount it on the bottom of the airbox
- This is where it is on the Mk1 & 2.

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
that was the place that I was looking at! but was wondering if it would be ok to - but if thats where it is on other mk's then that would be ok. Do they attach with bolts (ie have captive nuts) or would self tappers be adequate with some sealant?
I guess the other thing to think about is whether this Reg/Rect has the same performance and rating as the orriginal for my AR? I am guessing that it is made for a different mk CRM but Electrex didn't know that different mks have different styles so advertised it for 'all' CRMs.

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
Mk1 has a metal plate that the reg/rec is mounted on (you can't buy these anymore). I suspect a couple of self tappers would be OK.

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
I bought the same one and fitted the plugs myself.
It should definitly fit mate, but you need to put some spacers behind the shock mudguard.

So I presume you fitted it with the wires exiting to the rear - prob with this is that the wires are not long enough to reach the connectors, on the Electrex unit the input wires (3 yellows) are long and the output wires are short where as they need to be the other way round. So I'd need to extend the wires. Regarding location I don't see how you made it fit (did you enlargen the holes in the unit?) I just tried it there and it hits the rear shock and if I space the shock guard to give clearance for the wires then it will be so far back (at least an 1") that it wouldn't sit in the gap between the swingarm and the tyre.... any chance of a picy of how you have it?
Thanks for your help guys - I will wait for the response from electrex but I guess at best they will offer a refund and then I won't have a Reg/Rect

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
i did the same ,put spacers on mud flap and used longer bolts.had the same moan about wires, but apparently there are about8 different types of connecters in all models but the reg works on all models.
Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
Hi, I just routed the wires the same as the original one.
To lengthen the wires I just cut a peice off the old one with plugs still attached and twisted/soldered to the new one,
so it was the same length. The holes are big enough. The only thing that will be different is it will sit further back than before (away from the shock) this is why the mud guard needs spacers to accomodate for that - It will bring the guard closer to the rear tyre. The Regulator shouldent be touching the shock at all. Hope this makes sense. I have been working away from home for a couple of weeks and don't have any pics to hand. If you still need some when I get back I'll take and post some, but I'll bet you have probably sorted it already.

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
thanks for the advice guys - I will try it in the original location again but you guys might want to check your's because I think that it will hit as the rear shock is compressed.
With the input (yellow) wires does it matter what pins they go to in the connector when I patch in the old connector - I don't see any markings on them? I'm guessing not because they should all have the same voltage on them - just different phase angle and the Rectifier is connverting to dc anway?

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
hey Scrub and Slasher
so I tried it again in the original location and it definitely hits:
No Load on rear shock:

Light load (the wife
):

Think I will put it here: (with a crud guard that I can fab...)

Re: Electrex Reg/Rect don't fit
firstly I don't think that Electrex world after sales is the best around, I bought a Generator for my DR350 which was said to fit, but didn't, I could not get any response from them at all either by phone email etc. In fact not very helpful at all. If the three yellow wires are the same set up as the Geni, i don't think it matters which one connects to which.
