There she blows again..
man, what a day...
riding from Manchester to Leeds. Just got about three miles down the m62 quarter revs at about 70 mph
closing the throttle briefly now and then to give it a breather then...all of a sudden I lost all power
cruised into the hard shoulder. No compression whatsoever. I'm guessing I've blown a ring.
they only got changed about 300 miles ago, when I rebuilt her. gutted. Did I break her in too hard?
anyway...it was bolllocks, sat in gale force winds for 3 hours while some cowboy recovery truck came and
stung me for £150 to take me 20 miles. I really Hope the barrel isent fucked too and big peices of the rings
havent dropped all over the engine. that's even if it is just the rings

bad news there scrubs
i broke mine in real hard and its still goin now
iv done just over 400 miles now since rebuild and its still ok
hopefully its just somethin simple for you

something just occurred to me, just before it seized I was running low on 2 stroke oil
so I stopped at the station to fill the bike up and buy some oil. The only oil they had for sale
dident specify that it was for injection or premix, so I asked the guy at the counter
and he said it should be fine for injection because that's what all the scooter boys
use who stop by to fill up. I now wonder..... can't even remember the brand - other than the oil was blue in color.

This is my only fear about buying a crm. My 1st bike was a KR1, amazing little bike. Its been in my family for many years now, infact its stripped right down in my brothers garage still. But had to get the motor rebuilt every 18 months or so.

It could be that the 2 oils were incomparable, but IMO the fault is more than likely something else more mechanical .
Only the stripdown is going to reveal the problem, which is something you could have done without

Cheers mate, I did wonder about mixing the 2 oils as I have heard it is bad - why is this?

I'm hoping I can get away with just a top end strip, but If there is something more
sinister at play and I have to completley strip it down again, I might just say bye
to the CRM i've kinda had enough of it and refuse to spend anymore money on it.
Worse case scenario - what else (mechanically) do you reckon could have gone to cause it?

I think you would be desperately unlucky if it was the mixing of oils that caused the problem .
Rereading your post the bit about backing of the throttle ,might hold the clue , your doing 70 mph and you close or partially close the throttle , meanwhile the engines still spinning at 6000/ 8000 rpm only now its being fed of the pilot jet /or midrange
,not a good situation. The beach racing guys would hit the kill button or the choke at the end of the beach straight.
Given that your engine was probably still fairly tight, i think this may have caused your problem , once fully run in it should n.t prove an issue.
Hopefully it is just a heat seizure to the ring , ie its seized the ring in its groove you MAY get away with careful dressing with a wet stone and a new ring , fingers crossed mate .

Ah just thought , drop the exhaust off, and have a look through the port, you may well see the problem or the melted ring or bits in the exhaust itself.

Cheers mate, I'll get to the bottom of it next week sometime when I van the bike back home from manchester
only other things I can think of are holed piston or conrod. Here's to it being rings - I couldent hear any
scraping in the barrel when turning it over, so hopefully that's a could sign.

I wonder if the cardinal sin of adding extra oil " to help with the running in " has been committed , how many times have you heard that old chestnut . Being an oil injected system its not very likely though.

I did think about a holed piston, or conrod even (really hope not)
I'm sure the mixture should be fine, I did a plug chop a few days before and it seemed ok wide open
I fitted one size larger jet to the main. Wish I had some tools handy to have a look.
If it is a holed piston or rings, I am hoping that I can fish out any bits with a magnet.
