parked my crm mk1 on a slight slope in soft ground on the sidestand---perfectly stable but at an acute angle---noticed fluid pouring out (as i was in the middle of nowhere-sat on it --quick look--and kickstart and back to civilisation---turned it off and had a quick check seemed alright--decide to head for home--everything fine

was the problem petrol flowing out of carb through a breather /overflow pipe? is this normal and just petrol from the carb bowl?

There's a small brass pipe in the carb bowl that sticks up between the floats- if the float doesn't cut off the feed and allows the fuel to go above a certain level, the fuel goes down the pipe and drains out - if the bike is at an angle, it could drain out of the pipe - could have been that ?
Might be worth whipping the carb out and checking the floats - good excuse to give it a clean too.

but be careful though ... that brass pipe is very fragile and snaps off easily ;o)

would thier HAVE to be something wrong for the petrol to be able to spill out or would you expect it if lent over to far?

if the bike was leant over at a funny angle with the petrol on, then the float probably wouldn't seat the valve properly, the float bowl would fill up and the level would allow it through the overflow pipe.
