Hi Chaps,

I have an oil leak from the gearbox output shaft and I have already replaced the seal. As soon as I ran the bike and parked it up the leak was back!

Am I just unlucky and should I try another new seal?

Is there a trick to fitting the seal?

Is it something more sinister?

Any help would be appreciated.

was there a collar on the shaft? i think there should be one, mine was leaking and i replaced the seal but the does seem to be a very small gap between the shaft and seal. I might ring LT this wek and check, but the parts diagram shows one so i think it should be there. Jon

Pull out the replacement seal , whilst it's out check your shaft gearbox one , your looking for any roughness, or sharp edges that could damage the lip of a new seal .
Dress with a fine emery type paper any imperfections.
I'm not certain if that's a twin lipped seal or not but ,measure it or take the numbers , should be three. dia x bore x thickness.

look for a VITON seal which are dearer but usually twin lipped and tougher than standard seals , they are a brown in colour.
You may wish to purchase an ordinary seal at the same time and try that in there first to see if the dressing has resolved the issue.
When putting the new seal back on cover the exposed end of the shaft with some cling film , warm the seal in a cup of hot water, and a little lubricant of your choice will also aid refitting , slide and tap home , voilla , job done hopefully .
