Powervalve - call me stupid / forgrtful.

Its such a long time ago that I took the cables off that I've forgotten which way round they go - I think the adjustable one goes at the front?

I'f I manually position the powervalve in the central position when the engine is switched off, then as soon as the engine fires up, the valve rotates fully clockwise and thats all the movement I get - it doesn't matter what the revs are.

I've read the excellent diagnostic forum but there no mention of this symptom.

Any help.

Thanks

Chris

the adjustable cable is at the front but the alignment marks should only match when the engine is idleing at around 1300 rpm, which is normal idle speed.

The powervalve doesn't open until ~ 6000rpm which sounds quite high to the ear.

What MK CRM do you have? The AR cable setup is a bit different to the rest... If you have MK1,2,3 then it is quite clear in the LT manual but the picture in the AR supplement isn't so clear. I asked this question myself as did the same as you  . See:

Personally I wouldn't recommend manually rotating the power valve with the engine off when it is still hooked up to the PV servo unit. I believe that they may have led to part of my problems. Somehow I think it confuses the CDI - but that is purely a personal opinion and I have no evidence to back it up.

Regarding your symptom if you are forcing it one way then starting the bike I would expect it to rotate back to its 'normal' position when the engine is run. Does it rotate when you rev the engine?
Following through Scrubs troubleshooting guide should allow you to pin point any faulty component in the PV system. If you have fully followed through the whole procedure then keep asking and we will try to help.
