OK, ive just stripped the front off my AR.. it looks sooo sad :(
Notchy steering etc.. I have removed all of the bearings and the holders in the frame.. But on the yoke attached to the bottom of the tripple has a bearing runner which looks like its press fitted?
Anyone have any tips on removing this? is there a trick?
Ive attached some pics so you know what im talking about.

how good are you with a grinder - you need to grind a slot across it and it should crack and fall off

Thanks Spokey for the quick reply..

Do you mean grind a slot across in a diag direction?
It just seems to sit very tight/flush against the dirt/dust seal?

Thanks again,

you need to try and get as close to 90 degrees to the stem as possible. if you get most of the way through the wack it with a hammer and chisel it should come off no prob, try not to grind too much of the yoke.

as long as you grind from one side to the other, doesn't really matter - your grinder will dictate where you have to cut - as Jonorow says, the race is hardened, so just get as far as you can without cutting into anything else - good sharp smack with a chisel should do it.

:) BTW,you can get, roller bearing headsets, which are sturdier and longer lasting,as opposed to the standard, ball bearing jobbies.

That one is a taper roller - it's the inner race he's trying to get off. I thought just the Mk1 came with a ball race ?

Thanks everyone for the replies.. got it all done..
Only one very important question.

Anyone know the torque settings for the nut on top of the tripple clamp..
Not the notched nut - I did this up but not to tight.. there is not up/down movement in the bearings.

Its the actually the nut on top of top clamp - The first/final nut. I cant seem to find the torque settings anywhere..

Thanks,

it doesnt make that much difference, just nip it up tight. its the bottom nut is the important one.
