Hello again all. I have a annoying rattle/clatter on tickover, which goes after about a couple of seconds when you pull the clutch in. Have done a search and found it could be a honda thing!----What causes it?? Worn basket?? Or a bearing/bush?? would like to cure it if i could. Many thanks Rich.

:( More than likely, it's all three.

Sometimes you just hear things that are not unusual and are just part of being a 20 year old 2 stroke.

As has been said before - 'Unless it is really bad or unpleasant, just ride the bike until it goes wrong.'

If you are stripping and rebuilding without replaceing bearings and bushes etc you will 'upset' the equilibrium of the system.

Sounds very profound( ) and a bit dotty but I hope you get the point ;) .

i have pulled the thing apart and had a good look. the only thing that looks bad is the basket, it has about 3/5mm of play side to side.
is this normal or should it be nice and snug on the shaft.

i have priced up some new bits

22106-kae-000 collar £11.50
91021-ml3-003 bearing for inside collar £17.50

these are the bits that i think are at fault.
my question to the people that know is, what else would you replace to try and quiet it down.

thanks in advance ste

Not sure what you mean by 'play in the basket' :?: .

Do you mean that the basket can move 3/5mm in rotation until the plates stop it turning :?: Is OK.

Or the basket slops side to side (not rotationally) when everthing is tightened up :?: Is not correct.

Or the push rod can move 3/5mm :?: Is OK.

Or something else :?:

Have you checked that every part is present and accounted for :?: . It sounds like you are missing something, I don't think it could be that much wear :?:

Anyone else add or different :?: .

Have you got an exploded diagram as to what the clutch setup should be :?:.

yes mate , every thing is there.
when i say 3/5mm play, from the outside edge of the basket, if you push it all the way to the left, then all the way to the right the basket will move about 3/5mm.

thanks for the help, if you think of out else it could be dont be afraid to tell me, im good at recieving bad news.lol

I can't visualise what you are describing and what I think might be happening but I'm hoping to get another engine this weekend. I'll have an explore and get back to you.

sorry pal, im not that good with my explanations am i.

if you grab the clutch basket when it is still fully assembled, you can wobble it side to side or up and down on the shaft.
when you remove the clutch plates and the inner drum and the presure plate, the wobble/play is more visable.
the shaft does not move atall, just the basket.

hope this is a bit more helpful

I think I've got what you are describing but I can't visualise it happening in situ without looking at the actual parts and seeing how they move.

I'm sorry but the engine that was promised to arrive this morning will not be coming :x . Some complicated reason involving miscommunication between owner and seller that I'm not happy with.

So, sorry I won't be able to look at a clutch system in situ as I don't want to break the gasket on my clutch. I'm pretty sure that there shouldn't be the amount of play that you have :? .

Can anyone else confirm or disagree :?: .

That does sound like a significant amount of "sloppiness".
