Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Hmm..not happy.
Bikes playing up just after i though i had fixed it!
Basically once i rev it to about 5-6K rpm the bike just shoots up to what seems WOT and when i hit the kill switch it goes on for another 2-3 seconds before cutting out.
Now it was running (what seemed fine) fine the day before when i tested my second gear fix but somehow overnight its developed this problem. It really scary when your riding too as it doesnt die down between gear changes so when you pull the clutch in the revs sore. The only other option is having the bike run away on you which is not good. And i hate it when my bike revs its tits off as all i can think about is how bad i feel for the engine.
Also i put fuel in it that had been stored in a plastic juice container (cleaned it out first with fuel) could this be the cause? I somehow doubt fuel makes this happen. Under 5K RPM it revs and falls fine. Fuel would make it splutter and stuff wouldnt it?
I checked the carb today and it was clean no obstructions etc. And it still did it.
Any help would be fantastic as right now its scary!
Thanks

Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Pop the slide out of the top of the carb, you're looking for either, a frayed cable , or some obvious wear on the slide body , or on the chamber, also check the needle is securely seated, clean all, an reassemble.
Might be worth checking the float height , it should be about 16mm, [it's been covered before], yours may be more which could make it run lean, as fuel is sucked out of the float bowl, any one else think so?

Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Could a bent needle do this? Or are the needles ment to have a slight bend in them? Could be effecting the mixture enough once it gets hot? Cause i found that it has a nice bend in it! Prob from me not installing it properly

Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Bent needle could well do this. Replace it anyway.
Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
also check that the washer and clasp are fitted to hold the needle in place, or the needle might catch and stay raised.
Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Does anyone have the part number or type of needle i need to get? Is this a good chance to upgrade to a better needle?
Also how the hell do you get the needle out? I managed to get the end of the thorrtle cable out but that cant get past the metal plate thingy that holds the needle in.

pn;16012kae740 for a mk3 should be the same (Knackered?) no real upgrades as such unless you change the Carb.
To remove the needle, unscrew he top of the carb and remove the slide.
Pull up the spring and hold it out of the way.
use some needle nose pliers and unclip the spring clip and washer.
now rmove the throttle cable by pushing down and unhook from the slide.
The needle should now slide straight out.
In a good Haynes tradition, refitting is reverse of removal.

Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
I very much doubt that the needles are the same across Mks.
Remind me - we are talking about a Mk2 aren't we
. I don't have the part no.s for a Mk2
but I think the number will be engraved on the needle itself if you can read it.

Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
Ok Guys I took it off and discovered the needle is a J3RA??? :S whatever that means.Anyone clarify thats the original? And the circlip was set at the top of the needle, so number 1 spor from the top! Does that mean it was leaner or richer than normal?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Outta COntrol Revving bike.
its alowing less fuel in so leaner, should be in the midle groove
