Preparations for swimming

Post by ittakir » 08 Jan 2010, 14:32

Hi all! My CRM now is disassembled and I noticed that it's good time to prepare it for fords crossing.
1. First of all I want to connect some hose to air filter and make snorkel. The other end of that hose need to be placed near steering wheel. Before we want to cross very deep water, we can close standart hole in the air filter with cork and use only snorkel. Of course, it will be not enough air for full rpm but enough to slowly crossing the water.

2. Ventilation pipes from carb need to be connected together with T-branch. One pipe will go up to the steering wheel and one to the ground through valve. It could be automatic valve which passes only to the ground side but not backward. Or it could be simple valve which you should close before swimming.

3. If you falled and droped bike in water it will be some serious problems. First of all, exhaust system will be full of water. I want to drill small hole in the lowest point of exhaust resonator and close it with screw. You will just need to remove it and wait until water flows away.
Same thing need to be done with crankcase. It's very lucky that CRM is 2 stroke :)
It also helps to clean crankcase from dust. You need to fill it with gasoline and then remove the screw. Repeat several times. No need to remove engine.

4. Of course all electric connectors should be covered with silicone lube.

Any other ideas?

:D Maybe, pop one of these in your back pack,

:D
Normally, if there are a few of you in the group, the easiest way of draining the bike, after a swim, is to take out the plug, and stand the bike up on it's back wheel.
I did try, a non return valve, on the overflow/breather, but it seemed to affect the carburation.
The crankcase breather hose needs lifting to a higher position as well.
