Gasoline octane number?

Post by ittakir » 18 Jan 2010, 14:12

Did not find the answer so asking now.
What is the minimum octane number for CRM mk3 when it will work without detonation? Here I'm running on 92 gasoline (regular) and I think it's ok, but can I use 80 or 76? The aim is not to save money but to ride to some places where 76 only exists.

76 octane? It won't like that - especially once you have tuned the motor with your intake mods, cylinder mods, skimming the head etc.

So I need to tune ignition too, right? :)

The idea is to make little microcontroller based device to plug it between ignition sensor coils and ECU. This device measures current rpm and advances or retards standard ignition maps with own values.
We should be able to choose the amount of retading/advancing with external switch. For example, if we are in Mongolia and just have refueled with 76 gas from bucket, choose the 10deg. retarding.
If refueled with 98 and going to race at home, switch to 5deg advancing.

The problem is that generator has not 1 mark, but 6 marks wich are distributed on whole area of rotor with intricate rule.
