hi all, just got back from a day out on a very muddy viking way, the last couple of miles stuck in 1st gear!! anyone had this, gear lever moves freely also the shaft so its not a faulty gear lever. im thinking it must be the selector fork in the gear box, easy repair?
thanks in advance, mike

Sorry to hear that, your instincts sound about right.
It's a right hand side, crankcase, strip down, also requiring the clutch to be removed, for which you will require the specialist tool to undo the centre nut, or, a soft malleable bar,[copper/alli] , to lock the gears behind the clutch basket.
Alternatively, an impact driver will spin it off in a jiffy.
Get new casing gaskets.
Best to drain down the cooling system, but, it's possible , with care to leave the pump et al in tact.
Others opinions ?
Mike

+1. An early 2 pence piece will jam the gears - but will be useless afterwards

found what it was and not as bad as i imagined. Took the clutch cover off, then the clutch ( thanks for the tip about the 2 pence piece, worked a treat ) then i removed the gear change rod and all what had happened was the 2 small plungers which engage the gears, a bit like the carbon middle plunger in a car distributor cap, had jammed inwhich meant it would engage 1st but wouldnt release to select any other gear, if that makes sense. i removed it, cleaned and lubed it and its good as new now, i like jobs like that,by the law of averages though it just means the next job will be a pig!!!
thanks for your advice guys
