Sprocket bolts - interchangeable?
I searched "sprocket bolts" in technical, so I feel safe to ask....
The rear sprocket retaining bolts on the sprocket I've just removed are M10s with a large flat inside profile - the sprocket that I'm pinching from another CRM wheel uses M8s with a smaller conical inside profile. These rattle around the M10 hole like a prick in a shirtsleeve. Of course theoretically if the sprocket is accurately machined, the conical M8 bolts should align themselves to the centres of the holes, it just seems a bit un-Honda like. Advice please. BB.

quite often, there's a choice of holes, in both the formats on a sprocket, but IMO, do not use the 8mm in the 10mm holes, that way spells grief.

Re: Sprocket bolts - interchangeable?
ah!!.just solved this problem myself.
i bought a c+s kit which came with "v" shaped champhered holes as opposed to the "flat bottomed" bolts.(like you i have had other bikes where the rear sprocket would take either or.) after much questioning and scouring ebay and likely sites that might be able to supply the "v" shaped in m10 if found the following.........
m10 are original on the mk1 at least and the xr600 wheels i have fitted.
all the kits for sale via ebay and sites are m8.
one of the bolt suppliers who quoted £6 plus per bolt!!
anyway.........i sourced high tensile black m10 "v" bolts via ebay for buttons (you will need nuts and washers as the said bolts are 1.5mm thread not the usual 1.25mm)....i bought marine grade stainless again via ebay again for a few pennies.
i then drilled the sprocket holes out to 10mm........you could probalby use a dremel or ream them even?
job done........the head sits out about 1mm which is less than the flat ones anyway.
if you want i can dig out the ebay stuff later.............this is done via the mobile, lol
hope that helps............d
