GPS

Hi
I'd like to run a Garmin GPS60 from the bike as the battery only last half to three quarters of a days trail riding.
I have all the GPS connector with a live/earth feed, so could do with a bit of advise as to where to 'plumb' it in to my MK2.
I've had a look using the search and found my exact question, but the answer was PM'd

Hi Rich, I think it involved quite a lot wiring mods.
What i did was to take a slightly different track, I used a waterproof 12 cigarette type lighter socket, this was mated to a 12v rechargeable battery from a cheap battery drill.
This would easily last the whole day regardless of how much zooming in and out I did.
I'm back on paper maps at the moment as the Garmin 550 went AWOL whilst in the eldest sons charge

I feed the Vapor speedo I have from the large cylindrical capacitor that is mounted on the headstock behind the headlight.
Your GPS may or may not like this

I think you would need something to protect from surges that might cause the unit to brick.

what i would do is put a enduro bag on the rear mudguard , then get a gell 12v bike battery ( so you can lay it down on its side for hight reasons ) then fit a trickel charger conection to it ( cheap one off e-bay £10 ) usaly you get 2 lots of conectors with it , 1 conector wire it to the satnav, and the other is for the charger,
so when its not in use put it on trickel charge, then when useing the satnav , just plug it in,
or wire 1 conection to a cig lighter if you dont want to chop the wires on the satnav,
that way you are independent from the bikes charging system ( that may cause faults on the cdi / or satnav ect )
