Hi,

I've just been repairing the wiring behind the headlight to get rid of an indicator fault. Basically the original indicator relay has been removed and the wiring modified for a 2-wire flasher. It was a terrible job and two of the connectors fell apart when I pulled the insulation tape off. All is now well and everything seems to work OK. However, I now realise there is no longer a clutch switch. Can someone tell me if the original clutch switch is there just to kill the engine if pulled in with the sidestand down? The wire goes to the ECU so I'm a little concerned that it may be doing something else as well? If its just a safety feature I'll leave as-is as the side stand warning light is working fine.

How you doing Keith? I'm assuming it's to do with the side stand switch, as the two terminals often come off on my clutch switch which causes no problems/difference, and my s/s switch is disabled!

Thanks for that as it sounds like I have nothing to worry about re the clutch switch. I'm fine at the moment and work is quiet so I have found myself with some extra spare time. Thus, one of my aims (apart from a backlog of decorating etc) is to get the CRM working as Honda intended. The back end is rebuilt (including the dreaded swinging arm bearings) and I'm just attacking the front end (head stock bearings and fork rebuild) at the moment.

Hope you are also OK and that the ECU problems are a dim and distant memory?

Yes all good!! Touch wood, I have put that bad memory well in the past!! She's just lasted a 12 hour race, so can't complain at all!! :)

PS, I had a tool made for the bottom headstock bearing as it's a tight fit, and you don't want to risk damaging the bearings. Give me a shout if you're struggling!!

Thanks for the offer but I managed OK. The 'All Balls' bearings were certainly a tighter fit on the stem than I would consider necessary!! In constrast, the old bearings dropped off with a light tap. The bearings in there were well shot and judging from the general damage were clearly not the originals. Clearly these bikes are hard on their bearings all around!!
