Hi all,

I only has Honda CRM250R Mk2 for the couple of days and Looks like I'm in trouble. Last time when I tried to start the bike, I've found that there is no spark on the spark plug. Spark plug itself is OK, headlamp flashes normally when I'm kick start, but that's it... Using electrical tester, me and my friend studied electrical section and found that there is no signal from PGM unit to the coil. I mean, should be some kind of driving signal to the coil when You kick start the bike, but no any reaction on tester's display. If anyboby has same problem before and knows what to do, any advice will be much appreciated.

Do a search, there are guys that can fix CRM PGM's!

Check easy things first, like the kill switch, ground problems etc

Then test the generator coils and proceed to the reg/rec before actually blaming the PGM unit.
A borrowed ECU unit will help a lot on your tests.

The capacitors and thyristors on CDI units usually blow out but it's not easy to inspect on a sealed unit.

First of all, thank You to join a discussion!
I'll try to describe problem widely. Kill switch has been checked with multimeter, as well as ignition lock. 99% sure that this bits works properly. Actually, everything looks like works perfect. When I kick start, voltage comes out of the generator, "neutral" dashboard green lamp flashes, as well as headlamp. According to multimeter, voltage comes from the generator to CDI unit but not coming out from CDI to the hot wire coil. There are 2 wires from CDI to coil, and both have "negative" polarity, no "positive" during the kick start. But there are 14 different connections to CDI unit so maybe problem comes out from another place? Tomorrow will try to borrow ECU and do as You adviced.

:((( Will hope for the best. At least I have plenty of time for repair due to the winter.
BTW, is it any way to "unseal" the CDI unit?

I haven't found a suitable thinner that works well with this particular PGM unit.
I remove the front panel and go straight to the problem using x-acto knives and watch screwdrivers.

Hmm... Not very optimistic. I'll study the subject a bit more prior to breaking unit apart. Also neeed to find the reason what creates this, to prevent same problem in a future.

Thanks! If I can find replacement PGM unit for acceptable price, I'll try to do repair myself or use local service. If not - I'll kindly ask You to do a repair. :)

It's best to connect your "suspect" unit up to another bike to evaluate it's condition.
Doing the opposite could result in TWO blown PGMs, and an EX good friend.

That's a good point thanks for correcting me.
On the other hand this is particularly true for a PGM unit that has a blown out power valve section. The cdi section just worn over time and has less to do with the rest electrics of the bike. If the regulator was faulty other things would blow out first...

Just had a phone call from the local Service Electrician. Tomorrow I'll ask them what was the problem and take my girl back home. Yahooo! :D
