New to the site and now the proud owner of a mk2 250.
As ive never owned one of these b4 im still finding my feet around it and what is right and wrong.
after buying the bike I topped up the 2 stroke tank, drained and refilled the gear oil (my own piece of mind) and thought everything was great. After getting the bike legal i took it for a spin. very soon i realised the rear brake was getting less and less affective. to my horror when i stoped to have a look see the whole rear wheel was covered in oil the swing arm and the disc. what the FK. i could see that the kick start shaft was dribbling oil, infact every seal was pissing out oil. i knew i had only put around 650ml of gear oil in the gearbox...most oil was spraying out from the breather pipe.
after creaping home i found i had virtually no 2 stroke left.... the 2 stroke pump shaft seal was passing oil from the tank to the gearbox...the shaft seal is a 9.5x16.10 and no one on the www seals to keep the seal meaning u have to buy a complete new pump.

Has anyone else had this problem and what was your cure apart from ditching the pump for premix or paying a small fortune for a new pump.

Oh the only seals i can get are 9x16x4 or 10x16x4 but not a 9.5x16x10

I had the same issue with trying to buy a conrod, had to buy crank, fuk that

You can get the oil pump seal. Several on here have done so.

If you search you will find the relevant posts and what they did.

ok update time...
£1.89 seal from simply bearings 9x16x4 (not the 9.5x16x4 as standard)
9mm seal has a good tolerance range and will do the job.
I fitted the new seal and lubed it before pushing it on the drive shaft.
Tested and works a treat. pump removed from shaft and refitted without the need to remove the casing.

this fix worked for me but cant say it will for everyone as i used a dfferent seal and left the shaft in the casing and just removed the pump...i would only do it this way if u are very compitant.

Result, well done, I rate simply bearings service very highly.

I've just read you thread, I've not long repalced my balance shaft and water pump/impellor shaft seal and bearing. I didn't see any oil seal on the oil pump only the 'O' ring on the body of the pump, and the shaft of the oil pump sits inside the engine casing as it's the bit of the oil pump that is on the inside. The water pump shaft has a seal which sits on the shaft and can be removed without the need for removing the casing, is this the seal you are talking about?? Only asking as I'm now wondering if there is a seal I missed which I should replace?

Hi Karloss. The oil pump O'ring seal you talk about is located at the back where it fits in the casing and fits externally round the pump casting. Where the o ring is fitted the driving shaft comes out of the pump and there is an internal seal to seal between the pump and the drive shaft. If this seal ha failed your 2 stroke tank will drain into your gearbox and then when over full it will spray out the breather pipe or any other seal it can push past.
