Intermittant spark

And before anyone jumps in, no I havn't touched the ignition barrell yet!!
Mk2. It satrted a bit reluctantly, after about 10 kicks. Ran lumpily for about 1 min, cut out and would not re-start.
Checked the plug, no spark. Changed the plug for a second hand one that I think is OK, no spark.
Changed the coil and cap for a Fleabay bought item ( I presume it works), no spark.
Fitted a new plug, couldn't see a spark. Waited until dark, saw a spark.
Turned over by hand a few more times, no spark.
Does any of this sound like a possible CDI failure?
My tale of woe started when I hit a tree on my last H & H.
It was my first proper ride of the bike after just running it in my garage.
Started first time on the line, went about 100m and died. Refused to re-start.
Turned out the plug was fouled (running rich).
Fitted new plug, started first kick and ran fine.
Later on I hit a tree, broke my clock and trapped the throttle cable. The bike was revving its nuts off and would only be stopped by stalling it, not with the switch.
It would start again but just "raced". Got it home and freed the throttle cable, thats when the above as described earlier happened.
So at the moment I have an intermittant spark. Its possible, I suppose I have damaged the wiring behind the headlight, but can see no obvious damage. I have yet to try a circuit tester on it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
