Hi, guys. I just bought mk3 (instead stolen mk2), and the oil tank has leaks through long, but very thin cracks right on kick starter side.

I cannot find any replacement on this time, and maybe I don't need it, if somebody can advice useful fix for this.

quick fix would be to find another sutable tank and just cable tie in place before correct one can be found cheap of ebay.

Other option is to remove it and the oil pump and blank the pipes and use premix in the tank

the problem with bonding the cracks back together is going to be ensuring that it is absolutely clean and oil free before you glue it. Alot of adhesives would stick plastic from araldite to superglue but if you cant 'open the cracks enough degrease the cracks then how are you going to get any kind of glue in there. A quick and dirty way (and ugly!) would be to degrease the outside as much as possible and then put a layer of 2 part epoxy cement (Metalset?) over the area. I have successfully done this to seal the bottom seam of my coolant expansion tank but it don't look pretty!

Best bet long term is to look for a secondhand tank. Oh, the other thing I can think of if your brave enough is to take a soldering iron and melt the cracks back together carefully - just gently trace over the cracks with a fine tip - that would look ok to.

Hope that helps
SkidMark.

Thank you for suggestion, Skid. Then I'll go with soldering, as I up to. At least my brother good with solder things together.

deano123, well, thnak you, mate, anyway, but I don't really want to mess with premix, because I find original separated system very handy.

Have you looked on eblag?
How about a plastic patch over the offending area?, this could probably be stuck with some clear silicone, the bathroom type.

Well, in the end we glued cracks with Loctite and soldered them. Looks secure.

What "eblag" did you mention, Mike, anyway?
