sorry everyone if i have missed a previous answer to this question, but i have only just found your site and not had a chance to read all the previous. i have owned my crm mk2 for approx 24 hours now, and wonder if anyone can help with a querey.
when i finally started the engine from cold (are they all like this or is there any usual problems) warmed it up enough to get it off choke and noticed that when you rev it up, not hard, as the revs drop back just before it reaches idle, there is a very slight metalic knock twice, ie knock knock, which you cant easily hear but you can feel through the seat and your backside. dont know what it is like when warm yet, as i havent had time to try. i didnt notice it when i test road it but it is quite slight. any ideas would be very welcomed. what 2 stroke oil do you all run, is silkolene comp 2 inj any good or do they require fully synthetic and does everyone rely on the oil pump. what sort of ratio does the oil pump deliver fuel at, how much oiol do you use per tank of fuel.
again many thanks for your help and knoledge and hope to be a regular visitor. :o

You get the knocking noise on all mk2's and its not a problem i have had my crm mk2 for 2.5 years now and it has always had the knocking noise from cold and if anyone hammers their bike I do

I use motorex 2stroke mx oil i my autolube, the oil can has a nifty flexable neck so you dont spill it everywhere when topping up.

As for the starting try lots of little kicks to keep the engine rolling til it fires up, there is a knack to it. When I first got mine i was doing massive kicks and it would not start for ages, when it finally started i felt like I had been trailriding all day already.

hope this helps a bit and welcome to the site :D

Thanks

Many thanks for the reply Steve.
i have lots of experience with 4 stroke road bikes currently run a zx9r, but zero experience of 2 strokes as well as off road (whats all this mud about) :o . i can see a very steep learning curve comming.
very unuse to strange engine noises, and was concerned that it sounded quite a heavy double matalic knock. planing to ride it for the first time tomorrow, but only road riding just to get a feel for it. i will then check to see if the noise has gone.
do i understand right that yours only does it from cold.
Idle seems a little erratic and is slow to return to idle (hangs a little) when reved. is this normal or does a carb clean and cable lube sort it out.
if anyone can give me a list of things to check on the bike and mods that you guys make to improve reliability i would be very greatful, i understand that some people reroute the gearbox breather into the air box to stop it pulling in dirt do you do the same for the other breathers as well.
Has anyone got a copy of the bash plate template that was being spoke about last year on the forum, if so could you e-mail me a copy to
[email protected] many thanks.
and lastly for now does anyone have the sizes of the bearings and seals in the swingarm and rising rate linkage, and do you lads buy them from a bearing supplier or can you only get them as honda parts from a shop.
many thanks and heres' to the step up that very steep learning curve.
Ian

yeah i went through all those paranoid moments about the noises etc, all off roaders seem to do it, 4 stroke singles a lot more.
Ive come to a conclusion, just ride it and if it's got a problem it will stop or blow up. Then fix it and repeat till it happens again. clean and lube etc.

There cheap enough anyway to rebuild so just have fun, but if you have a speedo unit please sell me it!

Why the major worry about speedos'. me and my mates all use mountain bike speedos, even on road bikes. much more accurate and loads more functions. only costs a tenner as well. :P
Thanks for reply though. How many of these breather pipes can i get rerouted into the air box to stop them filling up with mud/water
