it all started when i looked closely at the packaging on some crm clutch plates listed on ebay, as well as listing crm it also had TRX250.

Then i broke the clutch centre on my mk3 and on searching for the part number (22120-KAE-010) on t'net discovered that it's the same clutch centre as used on TRX250.

Hmm, so TRX250 & CRM250 use the same clutch plates?

I'm after a new clutch basket because i'm rebuilding the engine & the old basket fingers have notches again.
So i did a search for TRX250 clutch baskets, turns out there's several aftermarket suppliers in the states. i bought one from http://www.jcmotors.com/p-15192-moose-r ... 86-89.aspx it cost 145 quid delivered, with no extra taxes.

i gave the 'moose racing' basket and an old crm one to S.E.P. at kegworth, they took the two steel gears (starter cog? & crank drive cog?) off the donor & transplanted 'em to the snazzy new one. Whoo-hoo slippy clutches.

it'll be a while 'till i get it all re-assembled - that will be the test.

The part number for the basket is 22100KAE020 and is £464.53 + VAT+ Del from Honda .

Looks very similar to the basket I made for my Mk1 .

oh, forgot to say that the engineers charged 60 quid

This is a very interesting discovery . Perhaps there are semi automatic versions Already found '2nd generation' baskets with stainless steel inserts to prolong life and make smoother changes........................

Should be easy to do if you have a drill press or know someone that has. I used one to drill the rivets from 2 original baskets when I was making mine.

them a-mericans seem to be into the late 80's TRX250

Barnett and Hinson do them as well.

There are a few makers who do semiauto in the States but they are very expensive - £700+.

I'll wait to put it in the FAQs until you have got it up and running. But it looks excellent to me .

is this the same basket as on the AR too?

I have found no visible differences between clutch baskets though there are different part numbers.

visible meaning not measured and confirmed, but they "seeem" to be the same?

might just be a very minor (irrelevant) difference that causes the parts numbers to be different.

once this fellow gets his up and running, Ill order one to install on my AR at some stage to see how it goes coz me basket is rooted

I've compared baskets and centres from Mk1/2/3/& AR and found no differences comparing diameters, depths etc; but as I remember the part nos. are different. I also drill some extra holes in crenolated section of the centres I fit to allow more oil access to the plates.

Hey Jeram, you ever get round to trying one of these on your AR?

it seems to fit pretty well. i think the basket fingers are a mm or so longer than the stock crm one but all looks fine & it doesn't foul the cover. It'll still be a couple of months 'till i fire it up & try for real, i'll post again here when 'tis all up & running. must be 'bout 5 years since i last rode it

to fit the new TRX 250 basket to the CRM's steel crank and kickstart gears involved a bit more than swapping over crank gear using the supplied fixings.
some machining to the central hole in t'basket was needed.
the TRX 250 has a large spline fixing for the starter gear, it looked like spline in new basket was machined circular, with the crm gear fitting snugly in the hole.

this is a TRX 250 central gear, it's 44.5mm across the splines.
