Shock Bearings / Swing arm bearings are no more!!!

Post by well2sound » 11 Mar 2012, 18:44

Hi, rebuilding my mark 1 and the 3 bearings on the lower shock linkage are knackered. I have read the section on shock in FAQ's, are the following the correct bearings I need to get

4 x 91077-gs2-702 / 16x22x12 bearings
1 x 91052-zv4-003 / 15x21x12 bearing
4 x 91262-gs2-701 seals
2 x 91262-mb2-005 seals
2 x 52463-kae-000 bushes
1 x 52464-kae-000 bush

Bit confused that there are 4 bearings, I only thought there were 3.

And for the swing are 18mm wide (20x26x18) bearings with a seal on one side.

Where is the best place to purchase the above bearings and seals?

The listing in the FAQs was wrong  (Now changed). This is what you need -

1 x 91079-kn5-003 / 15x22x17 bearing
4 x 91052-zv4-003 / 15x21x12 bearings
4 x 91262-gs2-701 seals
2 x 91262-mb2-005 seals
2 x 52463-kae-000 bushes
1 x 52464-kae-000 bush

You will almost certainly need all the swingarm bearings/seal/bushes as these tend to go before the linkage.

So this list covers the 3 way linkage at the bottom and the bearing that connect the dog legs to the swingarm? Im also in need of the collars as they are massively distorted can they be purchased or do I need to get some made?

Lasty, where is the best place to order these?

Sorry about all the questions!!

The list above is all the parts you need for a Mk1 supension linkage. As I have said you will very likely need to renew all the other servicable suspension parts. One stop shop is Leisure Trail if you want them next day.

Just checked on Lings and they agree. You have 2 choices then -

Go to LT and they may have old stock (probable).

Get one made specially for you/cut down one that is a bigger size that you can get.

LT get a lot of flack for high prices but I've not found that to be true for the majority of parts I have bought from them. In fact they have been cheaper than David Silver or Lings on occasions. They are very much more expensive on some things though.

Got a price from LT today for all bearings / bushes / seals that I need, looking at £170 +. Must be a way of improving on that?

That seems a bit steep :!: .

Last week I replaced all the seals, bushes & bearings in my Mk2-AR linkage (has 2 less bearings and smaller seals than Mk1). I bought bearings from bearing supplier and what I had to get from Honda from LT. Cost £80-90 and I saved about £6.

Previously I bought an 'All Balls' XR400 bearing and seal kit for ~£50 from Motoxmatrix on eBay. This kit has some parts you don't need for a CRM but was cheapest way of getting all bits. The bushes are ~0.5mm too long but will fit or just touch the end with a grinder.

The problem I have is that when I look at the eBay versions of the current ''All Balls' XR 400 bearing and seals kit' they don't have anything like the number of bearings I got and they have some different parts that I didn't get. I'm confused :?

The price I quoted was for the swingarm bearing and suspension linkage. I think I will look at the xr400 kits and buying in the needle bearings I require from a bearing supplier and then get all needed bushes and seals from LT.

Im also going to try and order the seals, has anyone got dimensions for the seals and rubber type? Hopefully will just leave me with some bushes to order.

FAQs give the sizes of the generally available seals. I think you will find all the others are Honda and/or other manufacturer specific and not generally available from stockists. This means that most of the seals you need are not available from stockists.

IMO, TBH, there probably better, as the grease now has somewhere to reside, and the fecking needles won't drop out every time the shaft is removed.
