snapped crankcase bolt

Post by fishtail » 22 May 2013, 09:09

following the guide - which suggested 6.8N -

Once all is well, tighten the bolts evenly in a criss-cross pattern to close the cases fully. Remove the bolts again, place a drop of thread lock on each and refit. Torque them up carefully and evenly. I'm not sure what the official torque setting is, I tightened them up to 8 lbs-feet (11 Nm) and only one broke! Try 5 lbs-feet (6.8 Nm).

have now snapped a bolt... case is back apart..

one step forward - 2 step back,,,

 what should the torque be :?:

he suggested not doing em up so tight :D

hmm my new small torque wrench only goes from 5Newts to 25

wondering if it was *tooo* cheap? ( about 25 quid new :o )

Not sure about crm bolts but berg bolts are 10Nm

25 quid doesnt sound too bad, as long as its calibrated.

Are they the original bolts?

Just use the copper slip, you'll be rebuilding it again in 3 months :P
