Power compared to a CRF250

Post by xander77 » 27 May 2013, 22:37

Just got a CRF250X nice bike, but if my CRM is supposed to put out 40 bhp compared to a CRF250`s 30 or under! then my CRM is definitely sick, posted here before but it just runs out of steam top end! now I have compared another supposedly lower power bike I know the CRM just doesn`t give anywhere near that figure!! good compression and low mid range performance, but now where near 40bhp top end? if I take the power valve cover off everything seems to be ok? is there anyway the shaft could be not connected to the actual power valve?? that's the only thing I can think of?

You might be askin too much of it.

Its an old bike and the sacrifice of low to mid power is at the cost of top end. It wasnt really designed for top end performance. Mines crap top end even when geared for it, but great mid range.

would a new CRF250 compare to an XR250?

if u cant whip one off the line with your CRM then I would think their might be somethin wrong?

I was pretty amazed by the accelaration of my CRM - found mine pulls quite well thru the whole range.

A CRM that is or approaching 20 years old is never going to handle as well as a modern bike with modern suspension but one with a decent engine (rebore, new piston, crank and mains etc is good condition) can still hack it, perhaps not in an endure but in a rally it can.

At last years Ryedale rally a CRM came 4th overall - it is as much about the rider as the bike
