2 stroke oil into geatbox

Post by Mark.S » 12 Jul 2013, 23:05

On a MK2, is it possible for the 2 stroke oil in the frame to make it's own way into the gear box!

Cheers

If the seal has gone on the shaft from the back of the 2T pump you would end up leaking 2T oil into the gear box mate.

You just need to remove the clutch cover. You MAY be able to do it without removing the clutch cover by unbolting the 2T pump but I'm not 100% sure. It would be worth a look though as it's easy to get to and you don't risk ruining any gaskets if it can be done from behind the pump. What I am 100% sure of is you won't need to split the cases as the shaft/pump come away with the clutch cover.

Easy cheap fix and nothing to worry about :)

Shoul'd have asked, can the seal be removed with out seperating the crank cases, Never had to do any work on the engine in the 2 years i've had it! so know very little about them.

Cheers

From your description it sounds like quite a straight forward fix :D .

Thanks again

Mark
p.s.
I think there was some sort on maintenance on the site last night, so maybe that caused the posts to get mixed up.

Just took the pump off, the shaft stays in the clutch case (guess it's got a big gear on it preventing it coming out?)
but the seal stays in the pump, so, you were right, no need to remove clutch cover etc. nice easy fix :D .

Thanks again

Yes mate that's exactly what is behind there keeping it in. Have a read of this viewforum.php?f=20 if you ever get stuck there is everything you need to know here (including this problem).

Glad you got it fixed.

Thanks Clint, i'll need that info. Haven't quite got it fixed yet, I haven't put the pump back in yet as i haven't got the seal, but in advance, when i get the seal, i know i'm going to be asking the question (as i didn't take note when removing it) which way round does the seal go?
Now i've written that i quess it has to work both ways.1 to stop the 2T oil getting in the gear box and 2. stop the gearbox oil getting in the 2T pump?

Cheers

I'm not sure which way the seal goes but I do have a spare 2T pump I can check for you. Will have a look later and report back
