AR Idle Control Solenoid

Hello Gents and Ladies of course

I'm looking for some assistance from the CRM aficionados that gather here...

As the family engineering guru (hmmm!) I'm looking over an AR - non runner or I wouldn't be looking.

I'm checking out the idle control solenoid currently (Denso 184600-3480). Looking through the manual chapter 20 (idling control system) the valve appears to work correctly. BUT the valve fails the test procedure outlined in - chapter 16-2. It would pass if the results from the "with and without 12Volts tests" were reversed.

Anyone out there know anything about this apparent 'mistake' or have I missed something obvious. :?:

Check all your vac hoses are in the correct place and that your one way valve is installed in the correct direction. Has this always been a problem or just happened suddenly?

The bike should run regardless whether its connected or not, I can disconnect mine completely and bike runs ok.

I am assuming you have an ignition problem, now you are starting a long thread....................

Thanks for the replies.

The beast is piped up as per 'helisupp's' diagram, so should function ok. Interesting to note that it should run with solenoid disconnected though.

It's not my bike so I'm not up fully on it's history 'Active Rascal' - though it's had a new/replacement wiring harness and then stopped running! The other point of my first post was to suggest the test procedure was incorrect.

I've got it to the point where it'll start, run for a few seconds then cut out.( My 59 year old kick start leg is about bu**ered now). The carb has been cleaned out and set up (jets are correct and float height set). So it seems like an ignition problem to me also 'helisup'. With an ECU in the mix it could indeed be a long and expensive road...

Many thanks

Apologies I didn't actually read the whole thread, just the bit about the solenoid. Agree with Mark (helisup) that yes it will run without the solenoids connected, though it won't tick over. Daft as it sounds, you haven't got the tickover screw turned all the way in have you? I actually did this once as it's an opposite thread. It took ages to start and then wouldn't tick over at all.

New (different) harness, well there we go, nothing to do with air or fuel supply.

But why a new loom ?, what was wrong before the loom was changed

Remove harness, clean every connection, inspect under every piece of factory insulation tape, job sorted. Its a very simple loom.

Hi

Not entirely sure why harness was changed - I think the old one was well butchered, might even have been home made!! Carb adjusted properly (i did re-check the idle speed screw it was ok). Idle solenoid works when bike powered by battery. All the lights are disconnected but that shouldn't make a difference.

A passing thought fell on me; is the bike designed as a positive or negative 'earth' system do you know.

cheers
