Gear selector shaft oil seal - CRM250 MK2 1992

Post by sbc » 24 Aug 2014, 18:22

Hi there. I have a CRM250 MK2 1992 that leaks oil from the gear selector. The seal has perished and needs replacement.

I've tried my hardest but I cannot find the right replacement seal. It's very easy to change (just pop the old one off, grease up a new one and replace):

We got the old one out but the new one I bought is too small:

I've messaged the seller to let him know but I suspect he's going to come back and say that this is a seal used on the 'inside' of the gearbox.

Just for confirmation of the concept, here is a video of someone doing a change on a different type of bike:

Can anyone tell me where they would buy this seal fort the CRM? I can't even find a part number and wonder if I'm even using the right terminology to search?

The easiest way is to pop out the old seal, look at it carefully, for the sizes printed on the seal, or measure with a vernier, and order a replacement from " Simply bearings", it will be cheaper from them, and probably a better quality seal as well.
The I.D. and the O.D., are critical, but the depth is a little less so.
