Rattling like a bastard

I am trying to find out why my Mk2 rattles and clonks when decelerating .
It pulls like a train , but the noise it makes on negative throttle , sounds as if a bearing is going to let go .
I have just done the balance shaft and new chain and sprockets ,
Piston is okay as are the big and small end bearings,
there is a bit of backlash on the clutch ,
It is not leaking air . It has got standard jets and a Dep exhaust .
The throttle is snapping back as it should ,

The only thing I haven't looked at yet are the reed valves , could these make it behave like this if they were on their last legs ?

Any input would be appreciated ,
As I have no more ideas .

Update have had reed valves out , they are like new, so it's not them!
Oh forgot to say it's not the power valve either .

Could be the chain slapping on the underside of the swing arm, there should be a hard rubber roller under the swing arm...check it's there and in reasonable condition

I was going to say it could be chain or sprocket induced. Check wear on swing arm chain bush and chain and sprockets. Hooking on teeth may cause the chain to catch and then release with a slap.

It's not that either ,I thought it might have been but have put new ones on , and yes the are adjusted up correctly .

I have now , thanks , it seem I may have to get some ear plugs , and hope nothing try's to get out of the engine casing !
Until I split the case and check inside !

i had a similar issue with my mk2 ages ago after every ride it would rattle and clank like scrap van on the way home....this turned out to be the front sprocket on backwards check your subframe for any wear if you got wear from the chain thats the rattling

Thanks for your input , but I have put on new sprockets and chain , but just the same .
It sounds like you are shaking a coco tin with a handful of stones in it .

Mine's allways rattled & clanked it's way through 10+ yrs of ownership,although i need to look at topend, 50k on clock (admitly quite a few with sm wheels) still original.
