Chain adjustment
Chain adjustment
Right, I've covered the first 1000km and changed the gearbox oil. Checking the chain it seems a bit slack. Can pull the chain up maybe and inch above the swing arm (on top half way between sprockets). So the question is, how much slack is required and more importantly how do I adjust it? I guess I undo the big wheel nuts and turn the ecentric cams until it is tight enough? How do you turn the cams, what should I be careful of? Thanks for all your help so far guys! Excuse a newbies dumb questions!

loosen of just enough so that when you tap the sticky out bit of the cams with a hammer it goes onto the next notch, make sure that the notch reads the same number each side, tighten up.
I set mine so that when I rest my foot under the chain (bottom half, half way long) it \"just\" reaches the underside of the swingarm. it's probably a little looser than most, but I find it lasts a bit longer between adjustments.

chain tension
I got a few mates to sit on my bike to get the swingarm dead level with the front and rear sprockets. Then adjusted it so they was three quarter inch slack..I read somewhere if its too tight it will break the engine mounting and or welds on the frame. It seems a little loose untill i sit on it and it then tightens up ,, I can imagine if i land hard from a jump the tightest it,ll be is the threequarter i set it at..

,,,That was the funniest thing i heard all week ,,personally I like em too tight..,They seem to go off the rails when thay get too loosephil1 wrote:a bit loose is better than a to tight (bikes and women) I snapped my chain last year even though it seemed quite ok on adjustment, the suspension tightens it a good bit when compressed.
