CR/CRM Fork leg length

Post by Gettingfaster » 14 Sep 2015, 19:38

I have (i think.....), 1991 CR 250 usd fronk forks in my mk 2. The front end seems high and i'm wondering if the CR forks are longer than the originals and so the geometry has been changed (steering is slow). I measure 920mm from the top of the fork leg to spindle (sat under it's own weight) and 945mm suspended wheels up on a stand. The springs are well past their sell by date and will be changing them soon, this may make things even worse. Anyone know what a Mk2 CRM fork leg measures? Also, can anyone tell me the correct measurement from yolk to spindle? I don't think the forks will drop more than 10mm through the yolks........any advise would be great.

If you get chance to measure them that would be great, i'll have a better idea then. It steers better now i've dropped them through the yolks.
The CR forks are slightly smaller diameter (near the top). I've made spacers for the top clamps which are working well (been in 2 years).
A measurement would be great, thanks.

I've not tried standard forks as the CR forks were already on, but i have heard they are not great. The CR forks are pretty firm (which seems to be a general opinion) and i have them as soft as i can get them. No quick fix for that, just wondering how much they are affecting the steering.

I tried my standard forks yesterday to see if i could use them at weston instead of potentially wrecking the cr seals i got on......they were removed just as fast as put on it lost its character completely, the frontend felt like a pogo stick looks like they're staying as the MOT/loan set :)

il measure them tomorrow for you as ive got a date down the mancave

The cast aluminium legs are also longer. So the entire length is noticeably longer. You have to raise the CR forks through the yokes otherwise you get the 'riding a chopper' effect.

Thanks all,

I've got them dropped through the yolks as far as possible now. Steers much better so i'll have to be happy with that.

Raced at the weekend and they were much inmproved, but they are on the hard side which i think has been posted on here before.
