Indicator repairs

Post by Speeddevice » 30 Nov 2015, 09:54

I recently replaced the front indicators on another bike (Megelli 250R) with nice little LED indicators but none of the aftermarket LED indicators had a thread long enough to replace the rear indicators so I came up with a way to repair the originals. The reason I was replacing the originals was that they had snapped off in the grooves that provide some flexibility.

So first I used a little CA (cyanoacrylate or "superglue") to hold the broken bits together.

Then working on a sheet of baking paper I squirted Sikaflex/polyurethane into the grooves and smoothed it over the indicator body.

Use a gloved finger, dip it in some soapy water and smooth the Sikaflex. Use turpentine to clean up before it cures. once it cures it can only be removed mechanically.

The end result is a strong repair which is also somewhat flexible. I would recommend doing this to your indicators before they break too.
