Fork springs?????

Post by Davey Munroe »

Has anyone ever changed the springs in the forks of a mk3, for something harder? If so what did you use? Do CR springs fit?
I was riding this weekend and blew a seal on the forks, I think this was down to the hammering they recieved. Also the adjusters on the bottom of the forks dont work, does this make a difference on a crm?

Hi Davey. I'm not sure if any CR, or springs from any other models will fit, but it would be worth finding out, i'll see what i can come up with.
As for the adjusters on the bottom of the fork leg, they are to adjust the commpression damping, and do make quite a diffirence.

Gwyn.

P.S. Just done a search on the forum, and quite a few people mention that XR400 fork springs fit, and apparently you can get them with a diffirent spring rating. But, nobody has said that they have actually done the conversion :?

arent you supposed to release the fork caps regularly to stop air pressure build up blowing your seals or have i managed to dream this up?,i'm sure i've seen a post where someone fitted bleed off valves to the fork caps to make this easier

How do slider. Yes, you are supposed to release the air pressure inside the fork leg every so often, like you say, by partialy removing the fork caps. You can also fit, if you wanted to, a valve in the fork cap of each fork to release the pressure. Shudna did it, and did a neat job too 8) .
I just unscrew my fork caps every couple of rides off road, esspecialy if doing jumps, as i have once popped a seal :) .
