gearbox oil leak

Does anyone else suffer with a slight gearbox oil leak.I replaced the seals on the gear selector and the sprocket about 6 months ago and its started to leak again.Not a lot but its noticable,i cleaned the area first before fitting the seals so must be age but every 6 months ? any thoughts before i ring LT

Hi Mikey. I have never had any oil leak at either the gearbox sprocket or the gear selector oil seals. You might want to check to see if the gear selector shaft is slightly bent, as i have heard that this will cause the seal to leak.

Hi Mikey,
the splines on the shafts are like little knives, and can damage the lips of the seal. :|
I'm not saying this is whats happened.
But I always fit a piece of shrink tubing over the splines and put the hot air gun on it. Then lightly oil the shaft and shrink tubing before offering the seal up for replacement.
At least this way you have no sharp edges exposed to damage your new seal. :D

Thanks fossil i think thats what happend, Any way i have just stripped out the clutch and apart from a little ware on the basket ,all looks good,so just wondering if theres anything to watch out for when putting it back together.has anyone had probs with bleeding the oil pump and so on.It never harms to ask.

hey mikey,follow the instructions in the lt manual and you shouldn't have any probs.i always check oil pump operation by using a seperate premixed fuel/oil supply linked to the carb,take the oil supply hose off the manifold,temporarily block the manifold oil inlet pipe then start the bike, oil should then come out of the disconnected hose.hope this is of some use mate

Yer cheers slider ,never trusted them pumps anyway but i will dig out an old fairy bottle for premix. better to play it safe
