Pingin its ed off
Alreet?
I had a right turn this afternoon. I put a new throttle/oil pump/carb cable on my mk 2. Set my pump up as it says in the book (at full chat the lines on the pulley should line with the pointer). I started it and warmed it up (stationary) and then knocked the choke off. Soon after it decided to rev its nuts off. Could it stop it ? Could I buggary. It were pingin its ed off. I turned the ignition off (still pingin its ed off), took the plug cap off (still pingin its ed off), turned the fuel off and drained the carb as its pingin its ed off. Eventually the engine cut out. I were really pooing my pants. I thought she were gonna blow.
Ive checked my carb, throttle travel etc etc.
About an hour later I fired it up again on choke. Warmed it and then banged the choke off. A few blips of the throttle and the revs started progressivly climbing and staying there with each blip of the throttle. My arse started contractions again and I turned the keys to off and luckily this time it stopped. I weren't going to see if it were gonna revs its nuts off again........I daren't!!!
What the bloody ell is going on?
On another note, I know of a 2000 AR going for sale with 14k kms on the clock. Its mint, makes the eds look like an FS1E. Asking price is £3.5k and its at Rockets Apprillia in Blackburn, black and red! There ias another AR at A1 motorcycles in Preston for 2.8k but not seen it!
Any help with the above would be appreciated!!

Hi Chris,
The throttle slide will only fit one way - as you correctly pointed out there is a groove in the slide and a pin in the carb body - it is impossible to cock this up.
Am I correct in thinking that the bike ran ok before you put these new cables in? If thats the case then you havent put it back together correctly - suggest that you start at the carb end and work back to the twistgrip.
Let me know how you get on mate.

Thanks for the info guys.
I had a look last night at my carb slider and nothing seems amiss. Its funny how it only seemed to want to rev progressivly higher each time I blipped the throttle once I knocked the choke off and the engine was warm?
Whats the quickest way of stopping the engine if it revs its nuts off again?

Chris,
Sounds like you missed something when you put the new cable in - ill bet that the new cable is sticking somewhere along the line, suggest that you follow my earlier advice and start at one end and follow the cable back.
I would have said that the best way to stop the bike from pinging would have been to pull the HT lead or follow Daven's advice - you will be able to get it into gear, you may just have to stamp on the lever!!!
Let me know how you get on,
