Mk2 CRM engine stalls at high revs

Hi, a friend of mine just bought an old CRM and he and his mechanic doesn't know enough to help...

Here's the known history of the bike, btw I am by no means an expert on CRMs, I haven't even got the freakin' manual of this bike in order to troubleshoot it myself...

The bike was bought with a damaged CDI, it was replaced. It was sitting on a garage for a couple of years.
The mechanic cleaned the carbs, and my friend used contact spray on all points needed.
The bike started ok, but when he reved it up, it stalled. And it stalls every time you rev it up.
The mechanic couldn't think of anything.

I'm suspecting it's an electrical component that needs to be replaced, but no manual means I'm lost -no manual also means I won't mess with my friend's bike.

The alternative for him is to pack the bike and spend a small fortune to send it overseas for repair...

More info, about the condition of air filter etc, next week.

Any ideas?

For starters - Could be a simple fuel blockage. Have you cleaned out the carb

. You will probably need to replace the jets if there is corrosion.

The carbs were clean when he started the bike, I'll double check with him tomorrow about the condition of the fuel tank -if it's as simple as dirt clogging I'm gonna kick him where it hurts. :-)

Any schematics online, or info about the proper readings to use my multimeter?

It's the blue one, so I think it's the Mk2.2.

Sounds like a fuel issue, check fuel inlet valve to carb, also check float height, and needle jet clip, for it's position.
Does it sound like it's running lean? is it ticking over to high. Maybe check rubber inlet manifold for fatigue.
How old is the fuel ? Check exhaust is clear, it's been parked up for a couple of years.

I'll probably see and check the bike myself tomorrow, and come back and let you know what I found out.

I'll start with emptying the gas tank, pour fresh gas and follow your advice.

Slowly but thoroughly I'll make this puppie scream again.

Two last dumb questions.

1 The standard position of the jet clip for the CRM is on the middle, right?

2 To make it less lean means putting the jet clip one click up I think... Right?
[I'm an old gixxer, and haven't used carbs for ages, one mind can't remember all. ;-) ]

1) Yes but needle position won't cause the effect you are looking at.
2) Moving the clip towards the top of the needle will make it leaner in the approx. first 1/2 of throttle travel.

Well, I found him and we had a long chat about the bike...

It seems that everything was taken care of including, gas tank, carbs syncing etc.
Everything was clean but then he had no spark on the pipe when he started the bike.
The bike will be delivered to a "specialised" bike electrician overseas to check all electrical components...

Hopefully, he won't have to pay again for a new CDI.

Any ideas are welcome on the subject...

hey zireous - please satisfy my curiosity - where is your friend with the CRM??? I get the impression he is not local to you in Greece?
