my crm forks repairable?? safe??

what year cr forks was it again 90-95 ?
i have got some yz ones but spindle size is massive so i would need to source a axle and wheel + machine my bottom yoke
i guess well just forget the repair...

any thoughts why ?
wouldn't have thought using them on the road would be any different to on the track regarding the alloy corroding - to me it looks like a manufacturing fault / poor materials ... seen loads of other bike that have no faults - only seen this on later CRM forks ?

Road salt and lack of cleaning. MX bikes don't suffer to anything like the same extent.

I think it is to do with the plastic fork leg protectors, they do exactly what it says on the tin, but they almost touch at the front of the fork, so all the crud gets jammed in there. I checked mine this morning by pushing my finger between the fork leg and the protector, and it seems O.K., but I will take them off and smear some petroleum jelly on the fork leg, that should help.

Took my fork protectors off, and just as I was dreading, there are a couple spots of corrosion, hidden by the top of the protector. Road bikes don,t have protectors, so there is,nt a crud trap. They look well made to me. Get those protectors off, but you might not like what you find.
