the police DO check when the vehicle has been in a fatal or near fatal accident
if you are not the fatality and have killed someone else your insurance is null and void and you may have to pay out to the family yourself
which means 1 your sometimes upto £500.000 out of pocket and 2 your almost certainly facing a lengthy jail sentance
so £180 for a restrictor kit is not that much !!!!!
i do actually know someone whos been in this position and she is now serving 13 years ! she was 19 when she was sentenced and has no chance of a decent life now all because she refused to pay the restrictor fee

You are pointing out that for very little comparible cost you can make yourself immune from what is basically life destroying costs and a long criminal sentence. This can happen even if it 'wasn't your fault'.
It is very easy when you are young to look at something like this and believe in your own invulnerability. Yet this kind of thing happens. This is not like breaking a speed limit or riding on the footpath. The consequences are severe.
It's just common sense.

ok thanks i know its not worth the risk of a licance and like u say if a accident happens i am defo getting it restricted i just need to know were u get it done

AlanH make an extremely valid point. Even if you restrict the bike to 33bhp you will still be illegal.
The law states if you pass your test at 17 on a 125 you can have a restricted category A licence for 2 years which then defualts to a full category A.
Whilst restricted for the 2 years you can ride a bike of 33bhp as long as its got less than 0.16kw / kg.
If a restrcited CRM 250 has 33bhp that equals 24.35kW. If a CRM weighs 127kg then thats 24.35 / 127 which equals 0.19kW / kg which is still illegal.
I agree its gonna take a git of a police officer to catch you but there are out there. I'm a bike instructor so know a few of the methods they use like mobile dynos - I kid you not. These don't accurately measure your bhp just that you aren't restricted either properly or at all. The bikes are then taken away for thorough examination.
If you do have an accident even with a restricted bike it only takes a thorough pen pusher in your insurance company to tally the figures - it only took me 5 minutes - and you not only don't have any insurance but you face all the other issues as highlighted.
If I was you, I'd either stick to organised offroad events like H&H's, enduros, private land or buy a bike that does comply as a temporary measure like an XR250 which will just scrape through and should see you through your 2 years til you have an unrestricted licence.
