Rim bead locks

Looked on here and apparantly the rim bead is meant to be 2 inch, is that right? Cos i went to shop an he said "Think Crm is bigger than that mate"... so i said whatever is right... the one he`s give me is too big. ffs.

I should of stood me ground an told him crm250.com said its 2 inch, but i crumpled under the pressure! The one he give me is 2.15 i think, but it looks massive, i`d never get the tyre rim in. The old one i took off looks like its the same size as the new one, but its been squashed to make it fit, so what is the right size?

The rim should have the dimensions stamped onto it if it's original. If it is original, it will be 2.15.

Yeah, 2.15 is the right size. I didnt realize the rim lock actually locked the tyre, just thought it was the tube. I`ve only ever had road bikes, new to this off road lark an have never seen a rim lock in me life!

Havin trouble fittin the new tyre round this flamin rim lock. Whats the usual way? Do you put lock on rim before first half of tyre or after the tyre is half on? I`ve got first bead of tyre on an im strugglin gettin the lock in cos tyre doesnt want to move over enough.

What am i doin wrong? Its gettin on me t!ts now

Do a youtube search, there's a vid showing the best way to fit tyres.
Basically, you need slack for the bead to go over the rim, to achieve this, you must, get the bead pushed right into the well of the rim.
IMO, its best to start by flipping on one bead, then partially levering of the that bead again at the rim lock hole.
Then lever tyre, carefully back over the rim lock when it's in situ.
I have found after a hundred or so, it gets easier

Actually, I put a long post on here somewhere describing the best way IMO to fit a tyre.

Yeah, i read your write up, cant remember if it mentioned the rim lock. I`ll have a look at it again.

I think your idea is good about pullin the tyre over again, i`ll try that. Puttin the tyre on is pretty easy, i can manage that, its just the inclusion of the lock that makes it tricky ricky

The more you do the easier it gets.

Get hold of some tre paste/soap it really makes it so much easier.

My technique is put some air in the tube, then tube in the tyre. With the rim lock in place but loose, put the valve in place and loosly tighten the nut on the valve.

Nown push the first tyre bead on starting obviously from the valve and work around. With yte soap on, you can get the first bead over the rim without tyre levers but you may need to use a lever or two. The trick is to get the bead of the tyre in the well of the rim.

When you have the first bead on the rim, turn the tyre over and, using a tyre lever, ensure the rim is inside the tyre. Drop the lever out.

Now put the second bead on, with the part around the rim lock being the last part. Simple!

Done it! Only took ten mins when you guys told me when to put rim lock in. Hardly even needed tyre levers, which is good cos i dont have any! Haha. Only have 2 crowbars!

This tube vid is really helpful too, a bit long winded, but whats the rush?
