Guys, I sent admin a copy of the template months ago although im not sure whether he has uploaded it to the site. Maybe one of the 6 people that I posted a template to can send it to him again in case he has misplaced it, or better than that help out zwei and the others?

As for front forks, depends what you want to do with them, I stripped down the forks on my mark 2 to replace the seals, piece of piss. What seems to be the problem with them?
As for the template I could put together some measurements and hope that I never ever get asked again about it!!!

What model do you have again? USDs are slightly more complex but certainly do-able.
(1) Get the forks off the bike, much easier to work on.
(2) Use something broad and flat (like an old tyre iron) to get them out. Work your way around the lip and ease them out.
(3) You get a more accurate reading of the oil level if the forks are upright.
(5) How long is a piece of string. I used whatever LT recommended.
(6) Sorry I dont understand!!
Im sure theres a couple of posts elsewhere on this site on how to replace fork seals. In short its quite simple, just make sure youve got the room to work in and lay out all the parts in assembly order.

Bash plate n forks
Hi Guys,
BASH PLATE
I made a bash plate. To get a template, use the side of a corrugated cardboard box, get someone to hold it up to the lower frame rails and draw round it, then cut it out and offer it up to see if it fits ok. I bought a piece of 2mm ally from a local supplier, cut it, formed it, and fixed it on with six big rubber shrouded \"P\" clips - works a bloody treat, and cost me about £15 all in. It's easier with the exhaust off................

Upside downies are easy, take them out the bike, drain old oil, take out spring, remove clip, holding slider and stanchion in each hand make like a slide hammer, after two or three extensions they pop apart. Hardest bit is getting the seals in square. When back together, WITHOUT spring, fill with oil, to the top. Pump the damper rod four or five times to prime the system. Now remove oil down to the recommended air gap, this is more important than the oil amount in cc. Put 'em back togehter, refit 'em and off you jolly well go !

I went for the steel, with synthetic rubber insert, largest size, and they worked a treat.
They do mail order if you don't live near Ilkeston.
