Studded tyres for snow

Right I know it isnt snowing and it might not snow but... Has anyone ever studded there tyres? I have been watching videos of snow and ice riding and if it does snow this winter I want to be out there enjoying it. If anyone has done it and has any advice then that wold be greatly received or if you also want to have a go at studding your tyres let me know as I have several links for studs I just need to call them and ask a few questions.

seems a bit extreme in the uk a decent set of mx tyres should surfice

ha ha go up wythenshaw in manchester and theyl give you a set of studded tyres for free theyve just got to take them through a police stinger first quite cheap ha ha

Its for when the snow is crushed into ice on the roads around me. I had almost a month of not being able to go out on the bike. I have a spare set of tyres so just thought it would be fun. 50p a stud I have found. If anyone else has found anything cheaper the info would be much appreciated :)

just away from A roads and bus routes where the gritters do there work. I will update here when I have done the studding.

to be honest with you if the snow is soft studs / spikes will not make any diffrence with grip, the track has to be frozen solid packed down hard like ice for them to grip,
if your riding on a frozen lake then they will work fine,
thats why they use them on frozen race tracks, and have to keep adding water to refreze the track to keep the bikes gripping to it, and clean off the chewed up lose ice which will make the bikes slip,

your best bet is to save your money and buy a skidoo or a sledge,

i few years ago me and my mates went out in the snow, one lad had some spikes on his tyers he had got done, we all had a go on his bike in the snow, it was very vibraty and wabbley and still did not grip any better than our bikes in the snow , also no one wanted to be behind him just in case a spike was ripped out on a hidden rock under the snow,

riding in snow is a very bad idear , because you do not know whats hiden under the snow and you cannot see any holes or ruts, and with adding spikes you are asking for trouble,
