crm kick start slipping

Post by shane » 17 Mar 2011, 20:47

hi
i brought my crm 250 mrk 2 just over a week ago and have nothing but trouble with it. the bike wont start from cold when using the kick start but eventually starts when bump starting it but when warm its fine and it runs like a dream, the kick start slips when you kick it to hard so took it to bits and everything looks fine and not worn does any body no what would be making it slip? also where i can get the parts from as i have lost one of the springs lol and have tried every were for one

any advise would be a great help.

A friend of mine had a CRM that did exactly the same thing. We took the kickstart out, checked it, cleaned it, lubed it, though it looked clean and well lubed with no apparently worn parts. When we put it back it was only slightly better.

Experience says replace the whole kickstart unit though I haven't been able to find out what is going wrong.

Others :?: .

The cold start syndrome seems to be a common problem. Give carb a good clean, new plug and check cap.

Rollin the bike back and forth in gear helps. So does lying the bike flat till petrol pees out of the overflow. The latter works for mine when its been stood a while

Parts = look at.. LT(below) or a Honda shop. (Have a little look in FAQ - viewforum.php?f=20)

Best of luck, Mikey.

what are the rings like ? , i had the same problem with my first Mk2 it got progressively worse ,when i got it a couple of kicks and it was running then a few more, then no matter how many kicks it wouldnt start ,once i gave it a good dose of looking at and checking i found the rings were very worn ,a new set in and away it went first or second kick everytime
Im thinking about a bike with more valves than a powervalve

hi
thanks for the replys, i have been told by a friend that if i grind the teeth on the kick start and replace the springs then that should work lol and apparently the bloke i brought it of said he had recently changed the piston him self so rings should be ok and it seems to have loads of compression, think i need to spend a whole day looking at it,
